FAQ & how it works
Everything you need to get going. See also the rules.
Getting started
What is UNSOLVED?
A collaborative platform to investigate the mysteries of the web - strange sites, ARGs, lost media, unexplained phenomena, unsolved crimes and more. Anyone can open a case, gather evidence, and help figure out what's real.
How do I sign in?
With Discord, in one click - no password to manage. On your first login you pick a username; it must be unique.
What are the categories?
Cases are sorted into 8 categories (Web Mysteries, ARG & Fiction, Lost Media, Unsolved Crimes, Paranormal, Cryptids & UFOs, Conspiracies, Unexplained). Pick the one that best fits when you open a case.
Cases
How do I open a case?
Once signed in, use “Open a case”: give it a title, a category, a short summary and a description, and add sources (links to videos, tweets, images). You can open up to 3 cases per day.
What is the credibility score?
Members rate how authentic a case is on a 0–100 slider (hoax → authentic). The average is shown on the case. You can change your vote anytime as new evidence appears. It's hidden for ARG & Fiction, since those are known to be fiction.
What does “resolved” mean?
The author can mark a case resolved once it's cracked, debunked or confirmed. Resolved cases auto-archive faster (a month of inactivity instead of a year).
Discussion & sources
How do forums work?
Each case has one or more forums (starting with a “General” one). Open a forum to read and post messages; you can reply, upvote, and sort by oldest/newest/top. Anyone can create a new forum on a case (with a title, a short subtitle and a longer description) - up to 5 per day.
Can I suggest a source on someone else's case?
Yes. Suggest a source and it goes into a pending list; the case author or a moderator approves it before it becomes public. An approved source earns you reputation.
There's a 1-message-per-minute limit?
Yes, a light anti-spam limit. Your text is kept if you're too fast - just wait a moment and post again.
Reputation & account
How does reputation work?
You earn points for contributing: +10 for opening a case, +1 per message, +2 for each upvote your message receives, +5 when a source you suggested is approved. Removing or hiding content takes those points back.
Can I save cases to find them later?
Yes - hit the ☆ Save button on a case to bookmark it. Your saved cases show up in a “Saved” section on your profile.
What is the Archive?
Cases that go quiet (a year of inactivity, or a month once resolved) are automatically archived and become read-only. They live on the Archive page; the author or a moderator can revive them.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, from settings. It's disabled rather than erased - your contributions stay but show as “[Deleted]”. Only an admin can reactivate it.
