The ground rules that keep the investigations useful and the community healthy. By using UNSOLVED you agree to follow them.
Content & investigation
Investigate in good faith
Bring evidence, sources and reasoning. Wild claims with nothing behind them will be treated as noise.
Cite your sources
Link the original video, tweet, image or archive. Never pass someone else's findings off as your own. Anyone can suggest a source; the case author or a moderator approves it.
Debunking is welcome
Proving a case is a hoax or CGI is just as valuable as keeping it alive. Solid debunks are rewarded, not punished.
Vote honestly
The credibility slider reflects how authentic you think a case is (hoax → real). Vote your genuine read, and change it as new facts come in. Boosting your own content for reputation is not allowed.
Conduct
No doxxing, no harassment
Real people are off-limits. Do not post private information or target individuals - this includes the subjects of a case.
Stay on topic, be civil
Disagree with the claim, not the person. Spam, trolling and bad-faith derailing get removed.
One account, no evasion
Don't create multiple accounts to farm reputation, dodge a ban, or manipulate votes.
Keep it legal
No illegal content, and no links to it. When in doubt, don't post it.
Moderation & consequences
Moderators can remove content
Moderators and admins can delete cases, forums and messages that break the rules. Deleted content is removed for everyone. A message shows in its place so the thread still reads.
Bans are read-only
A banned account can still read the site but can no longer post, reply, vote, create cases or suggest sources. Bans come with a private message explaining why; the reason is never shown publicly.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from settings. It's disabled, not erased - your contributions remain but show as “[Deleted]”. Only an admin can reactivate it.
Case lifecycle
Cases can go quiet
A case with no activity for a year (or a month once marked resolved) is auto-archived and becomes read-only. The author or a moderator can revive it.
Authors own their cases
The author can edit their case, manage its sources, mark it resolved, and make it private (moved to their profile trash, restorable).
